Our story tells of an event that unfolds in a somewhat special family. The poised and beautiful Qu Dodo (played by Hai Qing) is a young actress in a theater troupe. Three years ago, she married Shao Gang for love, but not long after their marriage, her husband went abroad for further studies. She resides in her husband's family home, with her father-in-law, Old Duan (played by Xu Zhongquan), being her only confidant. Old Duan is a retired lighting technician from the theater troupe, and the dynamics of work and family create a relationship between these two people of vastly different ages, making them both family and friends.
