From the late 19th century to the early 20th century, the two to three decades in between are neither short nor long. For China, these were years of significant change. During this period, after the Second Opium War, China experienced the Self-Strengthening Movement, the First Sino-Japanese War, the Hundred Days' Reform, the Xinhai Revolution, and the Second Revolution, among others. Notably, China ended the Qing Dynasty and moved towards the Republic; new ideas began to emerge as the old systems gradually declined.
