The story takes place in a small town in Florida, USA, where a fierce hurricane strikes unexpectedly. Hailey (played by Kaya Scodelario) is a swimmer who receives a call from her sister during training, informing her that their father, Dave (played by Barry Pepper), is missing. The government orders all residents to evacuate their homes, but Hailey cannot abandon her father and decides to return to his house. Sure enough, she finds her severely injured father in the basement; if she hadn't shown up, Dave would undoubtedly have died. Now, the father and daughter must face the basement that is gradually filling with floodwaters, but Hailey soon realizes that their adversaries are not so simple—evil and ferocious shadows lurk beneath the water's surface.
