In the 1960s, in the Bronx, a neighborhood populated by Italian-Americans. The gangster boss, Sonny (played by Chazz Palminteri), is a well-known figure in the local mob scene. At the scene of a murder, a nine-year-old boy named Calogero (played by Francis Capra) witnesses everything. To protect the neighborhood's reputation, Calogero refuses to snitch on the killer, who is Sonny, leading to a friendship between them that resembles that of a father and son. However, Calogero's father, Lorenzo (played by Robert De Niro), disapproves, fearing that his son may stray onto the wrong path. Eight years later, seventeen-year-old Calogero (played by Lillo Brancato) has grown into a handsome young man. Sonny's power continues to grow, and Calogero admires him more and yearns for the mob life. Honest and upright Lorenzo's concerns for his son become increasingly heavy. The film "A Bronx Tale," directed by Oscar-winning Robert De Niro, was nominated for the Golden Lion at the 1993 Venice International Film Festival.
