People always find it hard to resist the melancholic mood of "Gloomy Sunday," which, as it turns out, is connected to a complex and tragic love story. In a restaurant in Budapest, Hungary, during the 1930s, the beautiful Ilona (Erika Marozsán) is loved by two men at the same time. One is the restaurant owner, and the other is the pianist. None of the three wants to change the status quo or disrupt the balance; Ilona feels calm and happy having the love of two men. The pianist composes "Gloomy Sunday" for her, and as a result, he and the restaurant gain fame. However, the arrival of Hans completely destroys it all. He was once an unknown who became deeply infatuated with "Gloomy Sunday" while also becoming Ilona's devoted admirer. Hans proposes to Ilona but is rejected. Filled with hatred, he has now become an officer, enjoying great success, and returns with a long-planned revenge scheme to deliver a fatal blow to their lives. The story of love, revenge, and war unfolds in a tangled way in Budapest.
