Juliet Grant (Patricia Clarkson) flies from Canada to Cairo, Egypt to vacation with her husband Mark (Tom McCamus), who she hardly sees due to his work. However, upon arriving, she learns that Mark, who manages a UN refugee camp, cannot leave because of the newly erupted armed conflict in the Gaza Strip. Mark's former security officer, Tarek (Alexander Siddig), looks after Juliet. At a consulate party, Juliet meets a young woman named Catherine (Elena Anaya), who shares a similar situation. They bond over their experiences and explore the White Desert together, where Catherine recounts her past romance with an Egyptian man. As Tarek shows Juliet the stunning sights of Cairo, she finds herself developing feelings for him amidst their ongoing interactions. This subtle emotion fills Juliet with profound sadness… The film won the Best Canadian Feature Film award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
