A serious car accident causes the girl Sakurako (played by Mari Sakurai) to lose her parents forever, and she seems to have gained the ability to see another world, which troubles her greatly. After a year of treatment, Sakurako is discharged and, by chance, meets the young man Shinji (played by Ryo Ishii), who intends to commit suicide. The two, having similar painful experiences, resonate with each other and come together. Under Sakurako's influence, Shinji surprisingly begins to see his ex-girlfriend who died in the car accident. On the other hand, Shinji once assisted police officer Sakanesaki in a murder and dismemberment case, and now he faces the fate of being silenced by Sakanesaki. Everything is developing in an unpredictable direction... This film is adapted from the classic rakugo masterpiece "Peony Lantern" by San’yūtei Enchō, directed by emerging director Tadashi Shimizu, and is the first installment in the "New Tale" series.
