19-year-old Andrew (Miles Teller) grows up in a single-parent household and dreams of becoming a top jazz drummer. One night, while practicing at school, he catches the eye of the merciless instructor Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), joining a prestigious band, but begins to pay the price for his pursuit of perfection. As Andrew practices harder, he becomes increasingly estranged from the outside world. The only one who understands him is Fletcher, but the latter's volatility and mood swings distort their student-teacher relationship, causing Andrew's character to change as well. Ultimately, when Andrew finally steps onto the stage of Carnegie Hall, he realizes in horror that Fletcher has been waiting to bring him crashing down... The movie "Whiplash" tells the passionate story of a young man who pushes his limits through unconventional methods under the strict guidance of a teacher in pursuit of his dream as a jazz drummer. The protagonist loves drumming, but his excessive commitment leads him to lose sight of the initial joy of music, transforming it into a burden of life and a near-maniacal confrontation between teacher and student. The film not only depicts the struggles of musicians but also exposes the harsh reality behind traditional inspirational stories. "Whiplash" won the Jury Prize at the 30th Sundance Film Festival.
