Tang Seng (played by Nicholas Tse) goes through hardships on the journey to collect scriptures. They arrive in Shache City, where during a warm welcome ceremony, they are ambushed by a tree demon who captures all his disciples, leaving Tang Seng alone. In this town, Tang Seng encounters a rather ugly but vivacious lizard demon named Mei Yan (played by Charlene Choi), who falls in love with him at first sight.
