A ten-year-old girl (Bertille Noël-Bruneau as Betty) encounters a fox catching a field mouse on her way to school. Enchanted by the beautiful fox, she hopes to see it again after school at the same spot in the forest. From autumn to winter, she searches for the fox along its tracks in the thick snow, but she slips and breaks her leg, having to spend the entire winter indoors reading many books about foxes. Spring is the hunting season for foxes, and the girl, worried for the fox, is overjoyed to discover its den and three young foxes, only to find that the fox has sensed human scent and moved its cubs overnight. The girl decides not to disturb the fox and instead waits in a beech tree for it to appear on its own. Thus, a relationship between the girl and the fox slowly develops, and the fox takes the girl on a wonderful forest adventure... The animal trainer for this film is Marie-Noëlle Baroni from France, and the six foxes and most of the other animals seen in the film are from her farm.
