In 2018, Guatemala, over twenty years after the civil war ended, transitional justice is still slowly being implemented. Every inch of seemingly peaceful land may be hiding unnamed bones waiting to be uncovered, and every silent mother’s face may conceal a painful past that is hard to look back on. A young man responsible for identifying the bones learns a clue from a Maya elder, suggesting that he may be buried in a mass grave in a remote mountainous area, possibly alongside a father he never met. Despite his mother and colleagues' objections, he immerses himself in the search, and his difficult-to-discuss lineage will unexpectedly be revealed... There are no hoarse accusations, no plot twists; confronted with the provocative theme of genocide, "Love's Scar" portrays the courage of the next generation to face the truth, the scars and resilience of surviving women, with commendable simplicity and straightforwardness. The power of returning to basics earned it the SACD award at the Cannes Critics' Week, and it also received recognition with the Golden Camera award. “We have a strong sense of responsibility to avoid any over-dramatization, as this is a story that happened to many Guatemalans.” — César Díaz
