The story takes place in the early 1980s, a tumultuous time in South Africa due to the apartheid policy. Patrick (played by Derek Luke) is the foreman of an oil refinery, and he has been happily married to his wife Priscilla for many years, raising two lovely daughters together. However, escalating racial discrimination stirs local black communities into a frenzy, leading them to express their anger through violence and destruction. An explosion occurs at the refinery, and Patrick, as the person in charge, is arrested by the police. Although there is no concrete evidence linking Patrick to the incident, he suffers inhumane treatment at the police station solely because of his skin color, and his wife becomes implicated as well. After being released from prison, Patrick feels a deep sense of despair over the reality he faces, prompting him to join the African National Congress.
