The film tells how a journey through South America ignited Che Guevara's new worldview and sparked revolutionary passion within him. Guevara (played by Gael García Bernal) was 23 years old at the time, vibrant and full of aspirations, as a medical student. He had a strong curiosity about the outside world, which led him and his friend Alberto to embark on a long journey across Latin America. They set off on a motorcycle, racing ahead, only to find the motorcycle quickly broke down. However, this did not dampen the young men's enthusiasm; they completed the rest of the journey by hitchhiking. Traveling through ancient civilizations of Latin America and mingling among diverse populations in various countries, they began to truly feel the realities of society and the suffering of life. When they ventured into the leper colony in the Amazon region, they were deeply shaken by what they saw and heard. Che Guevara began to contemplate profound and vast questions: humanity, society, economics, civilization, the definitions of human suffering and happiness...
