Randy "The Ram" Robinson (played by Mickey Rourke) was a dazzling star in the American independent wrestling scene of the 1980s, leaving behind countless classic matches, with his finishing move, the "Ram Jam," capturing the hearts of many enthusiastic wrestling fans. However, with the rapid development of the industry and a decline in health, the era of "The Ram" has long since passed. Driven by his love for wrestling, Randy has never left the ring, enduring financial struggles and the pains of injury just to enjoy the immense happiness each show brings with the fans who have accompanied him for years. He stubbornly chases the last glimmer of glory, while his personal life deteriorates. Years of hard travel have strained his relationship with his daughter, Stephanie (played by Evan Rachel Wood), and the severe impacts and constant intake of prescription drugs have brought his heart to the brink of collapse. In his loneliness, he can only find some fleeting comfort from a stripper named Cassidy (played by Marisa Tomei) after each grueling match. Due to health reasons, Randy decides to retire from wrestling and find a stable job to regain the warmth of family. But his manager arranges a classic rematch for the twentieth anniversary. For wrestling, which he loves dearly, for his devoted fans, and for the beliefs he has held onto for so long, Randy finally dons his gear again and returns to the ring... This film won the Golden Lion at the 2008 Venice Film Festival, the BAFTA Award for Best Actor (Mickey Rourke) in 2009, and the Golden Globe for Best Original Song and Best Actor.
