The story takes place in Hong Kong in 1989, where A-B is a trainee doctor. Filled with a strong sense of justice, he tends to stand up against unfair things and systems, whereas his friend A-Niu only shrinks behind A-B when faced with issues, highlighting their contrasting personalities. However, A-B's strong character causes his mentor, Professor Zhu, to dislike him. Despite A-B's excellent grades, he fails the graduation exam, while the unremarkable A-Niu graduates with honors. Later, A-B becomes a social worker and meets a girl named A-Mei (played by Li Jiaxin), who greatly admires A-B's upright character, contrasting sharply with her boyfriend. Over time, A-Mei gradually develops feelings for A-B.
