In 1984, inspired by the master of the Tachikawa style of rakugo, Tachikawa Danshi (played by Takeshi Kitano), ordinary high school student Sasaki Nobuyuki (played by Kazunari Ninomiya) decides to drop out of school and become a rakugo performer under Tachikawa. As an outlier in the rakugo world, Tachikawa's unconventional style overwhelms his apprentices. He unprecedentedly charges them tuition fees, makes them run various errands, and resorts to cursing whenever he is dissatisfied. Some leave due to the pressure, while others part ways with their master due to differing philosophies. In pursuit of his dream, Nobuyuki, now known as Danshun, even becomes estranged from his parents. Just when he earns his master's favor, he misses a critical opportunity and is sent to the Tsukiji fish market to train. During this period, a talented junior (played by Gaku Hamada) emerges, while two senior apprentices, Tan Tan (played by Akira Kitamura) and Kansai (played by Daisuke Miyakawa), each endure their own struggles. Faced with their dreams, Danshun and his peers run at full speed... This film is based on the life story of the renowned rakugo master Tachikawa Danshi.
