The film is the directorial debut of New York writer and director Charlotte Wells, born in Scotland. Set in the late 1990s, the story follows an inquisitive 11-year-old girl named Sophie (played by Frankie Corio) and her young single father (played by Paul Mescal) as they embark on a holiday in Turkey. The mundane events that unfold may seem ordinary, but the fleeting conversations, both spoken and unspoken, carve out the emotions between parents and children, revealing how they inadvertently become each other's rock. Twenty years later, when Sophie reaches her father's age during that trip, she reflects on fragmented memories of that summer at age eleven, where the familiar, caring father gradually reveals the sadness he never showed her that year.
