Fifteen-year-old Michael Berg (played by David Kross) unexpectedly encounters a 36-year-old mysterious train ticket collector, Hanna (played by Kate Winslet), and they develop a secret love affair. Hanna loves to lie in Michael's arms while he reads to her, completely immersed in the sound of his reading. As young Michael becomes deeply entangled in this relationship, he realizes he knows nothing about Hanna. Suddenly, one day, this mysterious woman disappears without a word. After a brief period of confusion and sadness, Michael begins a new life. Despite the end of World War II, Germany continues to prosecute Nazi war criminals. As an intern at a law school, Michael finds himself in the audience during a trial of Nazi war criminals, where he unexpectedly spots a familiar figure. Although eight years have passed, Michael recognizes Hanna immediately. This time, she is in the defendant’s seat at the Nazi war crimes trial, and the details of her past gradually emerge during the proceedings. However, Michael discovers that Hanna is willing to sacrifice her life to keep a secret hidden. Hanna is ultimately sentenced to life in prison, and at this time, Michael (played by Ralph Fiennes) and Hanna’s story continues... At the 81st Academy Awards in early 2009, the film received five nominations, including Best Actress, and Winslet ultimately won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in the film.
