The story revolves around a mysterious old hermit (played by Christopher Lloyd), known as the "Crazy Captain," and a young orphan. The old hermit has an eccentric lifestyle; he rides his bicycle every day to collect flowers, gazes at the sea, and visits graves. His life seems normal, yet it exudes an air of incomprehensible isolation. Even his own daughter struggles to communicate with him. The hermit stubbornly rejects everyone's help and insists on living alone, making him a mystery in the village. In the village, there's a group of bullies causing trouble, which the hermit cannot tolerate. He agrees to help a young orphan to prevent him from being bullied by the local bullies. However, his condition is that the orphan must help him build a boat.
