In 1982, during the depths of winter, on the vast land, people longed for the arrival of spring (household contract responsibility system). Wang, the village secretary, wanted to resume performances of old plays. "The theater basket" Lao He arranged for Yang Zhigang to play the male lead, while his daughter, Lu Xiaofen, was reluctant. Her heart was set on Kui Fengzi's son, Wang Shuman. In Kui Fengzi's eyes, peanuts were his "totem." When nine and a half acres of peanuts were stolen, he was frantic, running around the streets. He discovered that more than one person was taking peanuts to Lao He’s house... The dreaded Kui Fengzi, however, obeyed Lu Xiaofen's every word, following her around like a child all day. That night, the team secretly held a meeting to draft a land distribution plan. Unexpectedly, before the plan could be finalized, Yang Zhigang sneaked it out of the drawer overnight and made it public. Wang was caught off guard. Kui Fengzi and the ten-year occupation of the "nine and a half acres" became the focus of the land distribution. The intertwining of "singing opera" and "land distribution" unraveled a tragic historical tale. The film "Village Opera" is adapted from the first half of the "Dreaming Village Ecology" section of "Jia Dashan's Novel Collection," primarily comprising the three stories "Village Opera," "Peanuts," and "Old Road."
