Yang Yang (played by Pan Yang), a girl from Northeast China, escapes to a village in Shandong after going into debt from the bankruptcy of her investment in a streaming company. There, she stays at the only family-run guesthouse in the village, managed by Aunt Sun. Aunt Sun is a housewife who runs the guesthouse and has successfully dragged her son, Da Guang (played by Gong Tiankuo), back home from years of unproductive work in Beijing using tactics of crying, fussing, and even threatening to hang herself. After a series of failed blind dates, Da Guang shows no interest in marriage and just wants to pursue opportunities in Beijing. However, Aunt Sun orders him to stop working and instead find a partner to marry. When Yang Yang is unable to fend off her creditors, she decides to seek help from her father, Old Yang. To secure investment, she falsely claims that the guesthouse she’s staying at is one she invested in and that it’s doing well. Old Yang is quite pleased but insists on sending an accountant, Zhang, to inspect. Faced with this new lie, Yang Yang finds herself in a dilemma. Therefore, Yang Yang and Da Guang strike a deal: she pretends to be Da Guang’s girlfriend so he can work without restrictions, and Da Guang plays her boss so she can effectively secure her father’s investment. They hire villagers to act as guests and form a temporary team to create the illusion of a thriving business. However, they quickly discover that one lie requires more lies to cover it up, and the situation spirals out of control, ultimately exceeding their capabilities.
