Miles (played by Paul Giamatti) and Jack (played by Thomas Haden Church) are old friends. As they watch Jack about to enter the holy state of marriage, Miles reflects more on his failed life: a failed marriage, unattainable dreams of being a writer, a boring and tedious job, and no longer being young. With a deep appreciation for wine, the two decide to head to California’s wine country to revel, and an affair would be the icing on the cake. They indeed meet a waitress and her Asian friend in the fragrant wine region of California, and both Miles and Jack are thrilled by their romantic encounters. However, things take a disappointing turn. Their plans for fun are fraught with obstacles.
