In 1967, in the Motaba River Valley of Zaire, Africa, a sudden disease ravaged an American mercenary camp, with the death toll continuously rising. After a military doctor extracted infected blood samples, the entire camp was destroyed by a bomb, and the white-faced monkeys in the nearby woods emitted screams of terror...In the 1990s, a young American captured a small white-faced monkey in Zaire and brought it back to the U.S. to sell. Failing to meet the buyer’s requirements, the young man released the monkey, and shortly after, a new disease spread in the town of Cedar Creek, San Francisco. Colonel Sam (played by Dustin Hoffman), an infectious disease research officer, received the news and immediately began research and treatment efforts with his wife (Renee Russo) and colleagues. Due to the highly contagious nature of the disease, the government urgently deployed the military to quarantine the town, with orders to kill anyone trying to escape. At this moment, a batch of secret contaminated serum was sent, but Sam and his team discovered that this serum could treat the disease from 1967 but was ineffective against the now mutated virus. Soon, Sam’s wife was unfortunately infected and in critical condition when the government decided to bomb the entire town to eradicate the virus. Time was running out, and Sam traced the origin of the virus; he must find the original carrier before the bombing.
