Petra (played by Margit Carstensen) is a somewhat well-known female painter who has been married to her husband for many years, and they have raised a daughter together. However, as time goes by, Petra finds herself increasingly contemptuous of her hypocritical and indifferent husband. The stifling nature of her marriage leads her to choose divorce. Through her friend Sidonie (played by Katrin Schaake), Petra meets an American woman named Karin (played by Hanna Schygulla). The two, with similar interests, quickly become attracted to each other and begin their cohabitation. Petra supports Karin and actively introduces her into the world of fashion modeling. However, Karin views Petra's affection as a restraint, ultimately choosing to leave. Losing Karin sends Petra's life into chaos, gradually leading her to the brink of collapse.
