Petra (played by Margit Carstensen) is a somewhat well-known female painter who has been married to her husband for many years, and they have raised a daughter together. However, as time goes by, Petra finds herself increasingly contemptuous of her hypocritical and indifferent husband. The stifling nature of her marriage leads her to choose divorce.
