In 1945, as World War II drew to a close, the heart of the Third Reich, Berlin, had turned to ruins under the fierce onslaught of the Allies. After a brief exchange of fire, thousands of Soviet soldiers flooded into this decaying city. The German civilians hiding in shelters were compelled to emerge under the threat of rifles, and the sins committed by men were transferred to women. Countless women were raped, yet not a single Soviet officer stepped forward to intervene. She (Nina Hoss) is one of these humiliated German women, with her husband far away on the front lines, his fate uncertain. In her fear and helplessness, she could only endure humiliation time and time again. She submits herself to a Soviet officer, seeking to survive in this dreadful situation... This film is adapted from the diary of a German female journalist.
