Kudo Kazuo (played by Masahiro Higashide) and Sakuma Kenji (played by Shunsuke Daito) are longtime friends. Kenji is a high school teacher, while Kazuo is an editor at a publishing house. Kazuo seems to be having both mental and physical issues. After being diagnosed by a psychiatrist, he is found to have autonomic nerve disorder, and there are no miracle drugs for this condition; only consistent exercise can alleviate the symptoms. So, Kazuo returns to his hometown Hakodate with his wife Junko (played by Nao) and starts a daily running rehabilitation routine. However, he soon realizes that aside from feeling happy while running, everything else in life discourages him, including his relationship with his wife. One day, Kazuo meets a boy named Koizumi Akira while running, and somehow, they begin to run together.
