Xu Fengsheng lost his mother at a young age and lived a life dependent on his father Xu Zhonghou (played by Han Yan). When Xu Fengsheng turned sixteen, the leader of the feudal sect Quan Yi Dao, Wang Jishan, found Xu Zhonghou and deceived both father and daughter into joining the cult. Meanwhile, Xu Fengsheng's aunt, Xu Shuyun, also joined the organization, only to be swindled out of her money and forcefully taken advantage of by Wang Jishan. Heartbroken by his mother's decline and feeling helpless, Zhang Jianhua chose to join the revolutionary ranks. Xu Zhonghou's already meager savings were completely depleted through Wang Jishan's repeated deception, and he gradually began to realize that Wang Jishan was a thorough fraud. However, it was too late for him to resist. Over there, Wang Jishan, knowing that his plot had been uncovered by Xu Zhonghou and his daughter, decided to silence them by killing them.
