The story takes place in the picturesque Orange County, where the unexpected death of a friend leaves Sean (played by Colin Hanks) shocked, as he had never encountered such a real and painful event in his life before. By chance, Sean digs up a novel called "The Perfectly Kept Jacket" by author Marcus (played by Kevin Kline), which completely changes him and leads him to decide to give up surfing to become a writer. While completing his first novel, Sean earns excellent exam results through his intelligence and hard work. He sends the novel to Marcus and submits his application materials to Stanford University, where Marcus teaches. Unexpectedly, all his efforts result in a rejection, as the school mistakenly sent a failing student's transcript instead of Sean's to Stanford. With only 24 hours left, Sean must do everything he can to correct this fatal mistake.
