Abeto (Claudio Bisio) has worked at the post office in town his entire life. Because of this job, the relationship between him and his wife Silvia (Angela Finocchiaro) is very tense. Silvia hopes that Abeto can work harder to be transferred to the big city of Milan, but Abeto's efforts seem to have the opposite effect. Not only is he not promoted, but he has also been demoted to a remote branch in the southern part of the country. As a Northerner, living in the South is a terrifying prospect for Abeto, but he soon discovers that the residents of this southern town are very friendly and kind. He even makes a friend, Mattia (Alessandro Siani), while his wife remains unaware of all this.
