Angelika (played by Senta Berger) is a recently retired teacher who has been married to her husband Richard (played by Heiner Lauterbach) for many years. He is a petty, meticulous, and suspicious man, yet despite this, Angelika insists on taking in the refugee Tarek (played by Elyas M'Barek) into her home. Why does she do this? Tarek's arrival quickly stirs up a storm in Angelika's household, leading to Richard's furious outbursts, while their children, Philip (played by Florian David Fitz) and Sophie (played by Palina Rojinski), struggle to adjust to the presence of a stranger in their home. The accumulating conflicts and emotions are on the brink of exploding.
