Christine (Emmy Rossum) is a young chorus singer at the Paris Opera who has recently made rapid progress, thanks to a beautiful male voice that teaches her singing techniques every night from an old room within the theater. This mentor is actually known as the "Phantom of the Opera" (Gerard Butler), a man who was abandoned by his parents due to his ugly appearance and has lived in the theater's basement wearing a mask. The Phantom is deeply in love with Christine. One day, Christine has the fortune of starring in an opera.
