During the Republic of China, a wealthy young man from Shanghai, Yu Chengye, was poisoned to death on his wedding night in his new home. Involved in the case are two biological sisters, Meng Xiaomeng and Meng Xiaolu. Meng Xiaomeng (played by Yang Ziting) and Meng Xiaolu (played by Sun Wenting) lost their parents at a young age and were taken in by the Zhu family to work as maidservants. However, the father and son of the Zhu family had ulterior motives and took the opportunity to violate Meng Xiaomeng, leading her to develop a deep hatred for men and complex feelings for her sister Xiaolu. The Zhu family then targeted Xiaolu, and in an act of defense, Meng Xiaomeng injured them both while escaping with Xiaolu, but they became separated.
Years later, Meng Xiaomeng, under the alias of Bai Meng, became a famous singer and unexpectedly met her sister Meng Xiaolu, who was about to marry. Her special feelings for her sister made her distrust Xiaolu’s fiancé, Yu Chengye, and she decided to use herself as bait to show her sister that there are no good men in the world. While she succeeded, she also failed, as Yu Chengye fell in love, and Meng Xiaomeng found herself in love with him too. The two could not be together; on the night Yu Chengye married Xiaolu, he committed suicide to prove his love. The tragic entanglement between the three ended in despair.
