Nicholas (played by Peter Van den Begin), the King of Belgium, has always maintained a stern demeanor in front of the public and has been criticized by the media for not being approachable. To address this issue, Nicholas decides to visit Turkey. The Queen (played by Nathalie Laroche) hires documentary director Duncan (played by Pieter van den Hoogenband) to accompany him and film the trip, hoping to change Nicholas's image in the eyes of the nation. Unexpectedly, during the visit, the Walloon region of Belgium declares independence, catching Nicholas off guard. In a hurry to return home, he finds himself trapped in Turkey due to a flight delay. Eager to get back, the King decides to travel overland through the Balkans to return home.
