After his boyfriend dies unexpectedly in a car accident, Tom (Xavier Dolan) drives to the remote farm where his boyfriend's family lives to attend the funeral, only to find out that his boyfriend's mother is unaware of her son's sexual orientation. His boyfriend's brother, Francis (Pierre-Yves Cardinal), is homophobic and violent; he threatens Tom not to reveal his true relationship with his brother and violently confines Tom on the farm. Unexpectedly, Tom gradually becomes fond of farm life, while Francis and their mother become ensnared in a psychological game with Tom... The film "Tom's Farm Trip" tells the story of a young gay man attending his boyfriend’s funeral, discovering that their relationship is a secret, and later uncovering that his lover's mother and brother also have their own secrets; his unplanned presence triggers motives that the brother is willing to hide through violence. It is a psychological thriller that delves into the subtle interrelations of the individuals involved, with a unique style that is chilling. The film is written, directed, acted, edited, and designed by the young Canadian director Dolan, reflecting his aesthetic of "impossible love."
