In 1956, two high school students, Theo and Kurt, saw news reports about the Hungarian Revolution while on their way to watch a movie in West Berlin. To pay tribute to the victims of the uprising, they and their classmates decided to collectively ignore the teacher and observe a sudden silence for one minute in class. However, this brief minute profoundly changed the fate of the students, many of whom were subsequently viewed as enemies by the East German Stasi and were subjected to surveillance and persecution. After the class was forcibly dissolved, they were determined to regroup in West Germany, now as fugitives.
