The story takes place in 1952, during a tense time in Vietnam, with turmoil and war on the brink. Aiden (Brendan Fraser) is a worker sent to Vietnam by an American aid organization. He witnesses various events happening in Vietnam and is full of enthusiasm, hoping to make a significant impact there. Eventually, Aiden meets a man named Thomas (Michael Caine), a correspondent for the London Times who is well-acquainted with the local situation. In a chance encounter, Aiden meets Thomas's Vietnamese mistress, Phuong (Doh Hai Yen), and soon becomes captivated by the mysterious aura she exudes; he uncontrollably falls in love with her. Thus, a passionate yet precarious love triangle unfolds among Aiden, Thomas, and Phuong, which teeters on the brink of collapse following a murder.
