In an English language class, French girl Odile (played by Anna Karina) meets two men, Arthur and Franz, who are young men obsessed with American culture, yearning for thrilling legendary stories. Odile quickly becomes attracted to the charming Arthur, gradually falling in love with him. The three of them often hang out together, cruising in a convertible. Odile is staying in a luxurious mansion, and she tells Franz that there is a large sum of cash stored in the house. Arthur and Franz plan to break in, but later Odile wants to back out. However, Arthur insists on going through with it and they finalize a specific time for the heist. On that day, things don't go smoothly; Odile repeatedly asks them to cancel the plan, but Arthur says to come back tomorrow and even physically assaults Odile. What catastrophic consequences will the second attempt bring?
