Cunhambebe is the leader of the Tamoyo tribe's armed resistance against the Portuguese, and this tribe is now distributed between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. According to the memoirs of Hans Staden, a sailor captured by Cunhambebe who narrowly escaped death, the Tupinambá people are cannibals, fierce and aggressive. In 1555, the French invaded Rio de Janeiro, and the Tamoyo tribe allied with the Portuguese to fight against the French. Due to the ongoing war, missionaries José de Anchieta and Manuel da Nóbrega discovered a small village called Aldeia de Piratininga in southeastern Brazil, which later developed into what is now São Paulo. Because Anchieta was fluent in the Tupi language, the two entered Cunhambebe’s tribe and reached a series of agreements with him. In 1567, in Ubatuba, they signed the Iperoig Treaty with Cunhambebe, which led to Brazil falling into the hands of the Portuguese, with Portuguese as the only permitted language and Catholicism as the only allowed religion. Before the 16th century, the local Tupi people had been slaves. This film tells the story of Portuguese knight Estácio de Sá (1520-1567) attempting to drive out the French colonizers in 1594. During this time, the Tamoyo tribe's enemies, the Tupiniquins, allied with the Portuguese, leading them to feel betrayed and start supporting the French. A Frenchman named Arduíno Colassanti is captured by the Tupinambá. Although he claims to be French, the trial still declares him to be from Portugal, punishing him to become a slave. The husband of Seboipepe died at the hands of the Portuguese, so they marry, hoping for divine revenge. Subsequently, in a battle, he defeats the Tupiniquins using the cannons left by the Portuguese, and to celebrate this victory, the Tupinambá decide to eat him...
