Before Hong Kong's return, the British government decided to appoint the British-Chinese legislator Man Kit (played by Lau Ka Ying) as the last governor of Hong Kong. Mr. Wong, who had been persecuted by the British government for generations, decided to hire the four top assassins—Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter—to kill the last governor to vent his grievances. During Kit's inauguration ceremony, Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter mingled with the crowd, and at a critical moment, the illegitimate son of the Director of the Governor's Office, Lu Ge (played by Kwan Ming Fai), accidentally saved Kit and killed the assassin Autumn. The higher-ups took this very seriously, so they assigned Lu Ge and the governor's security team leader, Da Jian (played by Chow Man Kit), to undergo retraining to officially become the last governor's bodyguards. Thus, Lu Ge's career as the last governor's bodyguard began.
