The story takes place at the end of the Song Dynasty. The girl Ruonan meets the boy Jinge at a noodle stall in a bustling market. At that time, Ruonan, dressed as a boy, had just beaten up a pretty boy who had let down Chunhua of the Hongxiu Courtyard. Still angry, she was cursing him while anxiously thinking about Song Shijun's arrival. Jinge (played by Wu Jing), however, was on his way to carve a Guanyin statue with his monk master, who he depended on.
