Young and financially struggling Wu Zhenjing (played by Yoon Ki-sang) has failed the judicial examination for three consecutive years. In order to earn some living expenses, he finds a job as a prison guard. However, from the very first day on the job, he is bullied by inmates, which leaves him at a loss. Jong-ho (played by Jo Jae-hyun), who has been a guard for 10 years, reminds him that "animals do not bully those stronger than themselves" and begins to teach Zhenjing step by step how to manage the criminals. Besides that, the chief guard (played by Park In-hwan) frequently chats with death row inmates and plays Go, which surprises Zhenjing greatly.
One day, a big news breaks out in Seoul Prison. The death penalty, which has been abolished for the past 12 years, is about to be restored due to the case of serial killer Jang Yong-du. A few days later, an execution order for the death penalty is sent to Seoul Prison, causing a stir among the guards. Jong-ho advocates that the death penalty is merely a part of the law and is willing to carry it out, but no one else is willing to be assigned to the execution team. At this time, death row inmate Jang Yong-du attempts to commit suicide, and the only guard with execution experience, Chief Kim, suddenly goes missing.
On this day, the suicidal Jang Yong-du is revived and imprisoned alongside another nearly 70-year-old death row inmate, their heads covered with white cloth. Zhenjing, Jong-ho, and Chief Kim will carry out the execution together…
