In a wooden hut in the rural area of Hong Kong, a mentally challenged young man named A Long lives with his father Guo Ren and mother A Jiao. Apart from being somewhat unclear in speech and slightly less mobile than normal people, A Long's intellectual disability is not as severe as people might imagine. On the contrary, A Long has an exceptionally good memory; often when his father counts a pile of loose change, A Long not only knows the total amount but can also remember exactly how many bills of each denomination there are. A Long's good memory is also evident in chess; no matter what strategies his father employs, he always loses to A Long at the start, being "overwhelmed." Although Guo Ren earns just enough at the stone processing factory to support the family, their days are filled with joy and laughter amidst the poverty. They enjoy happiness in the ordinary, and with the neighboring girl A Yi often coming to chat with A Long, he is constantly filled with the carefree joy of youth. However, unexpected misfortune strikes. Just as life was repeating in its humble happiness, Guo Ren tragically broke the ligaments in his right leg while saving a colleague from falling stone at the factory. Losing his ability to work, the burden of supporting the family falls on A Jiao's shoulders. During Guo Ren's recovery, A Jiao takes on various jobs, including washing dishes in restaurants and working as a temporary worker at a laundry. Despite this, A Jiao contracts pneumonia from overwork, and her meager income is barely enough. With A Fei's reminder, A Jiao starts to utilize her skills: making pig bone porridge. Due to her unique cooking method and delicious flavor, the pig bone porridge business fortunately alleviates their difficulties temporarily. However, this good fortune does not last long, as law enforcement's intervention forces the fledgling business to cease operations. When it rains, it pours. Just as Guo Ren's leg is still healing, A Jiao sadly passes away from her overexertion. The simultaneous loss of both parents does not diminish A Long's will to live. On the contrary, motivated by love for his father, A Long enters A Fei's stone processing factory with his sincerity and spirit. Just as A Long becomes familiar with the factory work and bonds with his father's former colleagues, the factory faces closure due to business issues. Before leaving, A Fei helps A Long set up a store, encouraging him to continue his mother's legacy by selling pig bone porridge. Thanks to his extraordinary memory, A Long masters his mother's entire method for making pig bone porridge, turning a small storefront from barely able to attract customers to being overwhelmed with business. Once again, the pig bone porridge business prospers, bringing some improvement to their living conditions. However, Guo Ren, overwhelmed by the longing for his wife, falls into despair and quietly passes away. Within just a month, both parents have left him. A Long experiences the emotional blow of losing his parents, but instead of succumbing to despair, he uses his strength to encourage A Yi, who had set out with dreams only to lose her way. Encouraged by A Long, A Yi aims to pursue her dream of becoming a singer once more. Not long after A Yi leaves, A Long fulfills his father's wish by burying his parents’ ashes together. As A Yi's song "Habit of Suffering" plays, he raises the sails of life once again to face the challenges ahead and create a brilliant tomorrow for himself.
