Born into a martial arts family, the leader of the White Lotus Sect, Wang Cong'er, is brave and resourceful, with exceptional martial arts skills. She is discussing the uprising with the chief steward Wang Qing and strategist Liu Sanhuai when they are suddenly surrounded by Qing forces. Wang jumps off a cliff to escape. The Qing government posts a bounty throughout the city to capture Wang. Disguised as a traveling performer with her father, Cong'er leaves the city, but is secretly followed by Qing soldiers. They realize there is a traitor among them, and it turns out to be Liu Sanhuai. Knowing his end is near, Liu hangs himself out of shame. Wang Cong'er kills the tracking Qing soldiers and raises the banner to rebel again
