Walter Mitty (played by Ben Stiller) is a negative assets manager at Life magazine, having worked there for 16 years. He is introverted and struggles to approach his crush, Cheryl (played by Kristen Wiig). He often daydreams as a bystander in life, imagining himself as a hero. One day, the company is acquired, and the magazine needs to produce its final issue cover, which relies on finding a roll of film from adventurous photographer Sean (played by Sean Penn). Walter finally engages Cheryl and, encouraged by her and her mother (played by Shirley MacLaine), embarks on a real adventure across ice fields, oceans, and the Himalayas… Walter's daydreams pale in comparison to reality.
