In a bustling corner of the city, an ordinary woman, Tsuji (played by Sakura Ando), sleeps all day. She has been in a relationship with Iwanaga (played by Arata Iura), whom she met at work, for a long time. Iwanaga is a married man; his wife has been in a coma for years, and the gentle demeanor of her relatives makes it difficult for him to leave, while his longing for love and freedom keeps him in a loveless affair with Tsuji that has no future. Tsuji, who has a very monotonous social circle, once had a friend named Shiori (played by Mizuki Tanimura). After graduating, Shiori frequently stayed at friends' homes, eventually working in a peculiar job where she accompanied others while they slept, but she later inexplicably committed suicide, leaving Tsuji puzzled. Guilt, awkwardness, desire, and exhaustion make Tsuji and Iwanaga barely maintain their current relationship, and unconsciously she loses her direction in sleep... This film is adapted from the short story of the same name by Banana Yoshimoto, published in 1989. Together with "Night and Night's Travelers" and "A Certain Experience," it is known as the "Sleep Trilogy."
