"The Soul on the Leather String" is adapted from two short stories by the representative author of Chinese magical realism, Zhaxi Daawa: "Tibet, the Soul Tied to the Leather String" and "On the Way to Lhasa." The film tells the story of a hunter burdened with original sin and a vendetta, who is resurrected and guided by a Living Buddha. He conquers his inner demons along the way and ultimately escorts the sacred object, the celestial pearl, to the birthplace of Master Padmasambhava's handprint.
