Haas's color film, a sister piece to "The Saragossa Manuscript," which I personally feel suits color better; this film is superior to "The Manuscript." It is an inner adventure. The story is set in the early days of World War II, where a young man takes a strange train to visit his dying father in a sanatorium. However, this place, soon to be demolished, invokes many memories of his past. He is surrounded by soldiers from the past, mercenaries from the colonies, girls from his former life, and his parents... Award: Best Production Design at the Polish Film Awards Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and nominated for the Palme d'Or
