Lainey (Christina Ricci) suffered violent abuse in her childhood, and growing up with that shadow, she became a nymphomaniac. Whenever her boyfriend Ronnie (Justin Timberlake) is temporarily away, she adopts seductive poses and indulges in a hedonistic lifestyle. After Ronnie goes to serve in the military, Lainey returns to her old ways of seeking men, only to be beaten up and dumped on the street. She is discovered by an older black man, Lazarus (Samuel L. Jackson), who takes her home. When Lainey wakes up, she attempts to seduce Lazarus, but he shockingly rejects her; it turns out that Lazarus has just been betrayed by his wife and brother and is now alone and devoutly religious. He begins to take care of Lainey, chaining her to prevent her from falling into lustful behavior again, and gradually uses music to heal her inner turmoil…
