Miyako visited the psychiatric clinic run by Sotomura around the time the evening consultation was ending. Working for a travel agency, Miyako lived with a woman named Kimi-e, who was excessively jealous, and she confided in Sotomura about her troubles. On her way home, Miyako was confronted forcefully by Hirayama, a patient of Sotomura, but was rescued by Toyama, who accompanied her back to her apartment. Several days later, Kimi-e called Sotomura saying, "Don't create a rift between us!" Worried about Miyako, Sotomura approached her and mentioned Kimi-e's call. Suddenly, Miyako's voice changed to Kimi-e's, and she stabbed Sotomura in the knee with a knife. A few days later, when Miyako came to visit the hospitalized Sotomura, she had no memory of the incident at all. Just as Sotomura was about to press for another meeting with Kimi-e, his girlfriend Harumi appeared in the hospital room and got jealous of Miyako, but Miyako had different feelings towards Harumi. Sotomura delved into Miyako's secret heart and learned the truth that the two women attempted a double suicide, resulting in Kimi-e's death and Miyako's survival. When Toyama visited Miyako's apartment, he impersonated Kimi-e and watched Harumi love Miyako. Then, Sotomura walked away from their apartment.
