In a small town in Wales, housewife Betty and funeral director Boris do not want to face their unfulfilled feelings for each other, as Betty is married to the despicable town mayor, even though their marriage has long been a sham. Days slowly pass until the mayor's mother dies of asphyxiation, which brings Boris and Betty back together for the funeral arrangements. This time, they decide to be true to their feelings, but do not want to cause any chaos, so they plan to fake Betty's death and elope to a small island in the South Pacific on a luxury cruise ship.
